Through Local Eyes
Wildlife Tours Worth Coming to Alaska For
Thanks to Klawock’s incredibly dense sea otter population, spotting them is a guarantee on our tours, alongside a very high likelihood of seeing whales. But what makes an Explore Klawock tour stand out is everything that builds around that moment.
The possibility of eagles overhead, black bear or deer along shore, ancient Indigenous structures in view, and the unmistakable feeling of being out on truly remarkable water makes the entire experience feel rich from beginning to end.
Why choose us?

With only six guests per boat, the experience feels calmer, more comfortable, and far less crowded, giving you better viewing and a more meaningful way to take in the trip.
The Difference Is Who Takes You There
These waters reveal more when you’re guided by people who truly know them. Our local captains bring instinct, timing, and a depth of familiarity that gives the entire experience more meaning.
A Rarer Experience From the Start
As the only private wildlife tour based in Klawock, we offer a more authentic way to experience Prince of Wales, with small groups, local captains, and consistently high praise from guests.
What to expect on the water
A Warmer, More Comfortable Ride
Heated, enclosed boats make the experience far more enjoyable in changing Southeast Alaska weather, so the focus stays on the wildlife, the water, and everything around you.
Wildlife at Every Turn
Sea otters are guaranteed with a high likelihood of close encounters with humpback whales, plus the chance to spot eagles, deer, black bear, and other life along the shoreline.
Where the Experience Gets Its Depth
These waters are part of a landscape shaped by rainforest, protected passages, rich marine life, and deep Indigenous presence, which makes the experience feel bigger than sightseeing alone.
Looking for fishing trips too?
Explore Klawock still offers select fishing outings, with details available on our Google Page.
About us
Explore Klawock is led by Roby Medina, a lifelong Klawock resident, local captain, and Tlingit and Haida tribal member with deep ties to these waters.
That connection shapes the entire experience. Guests are not simply taken out for a tour. They are shown this place by people who know its rhythms, wildlife, shoreline, and stories with a depth that can only come from living alongside them.
